Smile! HLSA Visited by Brident Dental!

One of the great pleasures of our monthly HLSA networking mixers is meeting representatives from the wonderful businesses around San Antonio and learning more about them. In an effort to share more about those opportunities with our followers we have started posting them here, on our website, along with notices about community events that have a business focus.

At our June 14th mixer we were privileged to meet Katie McCormick, the Community Relations Representative from Brident Dental.  You’ve probably seen the Brident locations driving around town, and Katie tells us there are many locations all over Texas, including the Dallas-Ft. Worth area and Houston.

Here, in a nutshell, is what Brident has to say about their services,

Brident Dental and Orthodontics is a family centered dental group offering nearly all dental services under one roof. We take most insurances including Chip and Medicaid as well as offering a free exam and xray for those without insurance. For any specialty treatments such as braces or implants we offer free consultation with our doctors.

To schedule a general appointment, free specialty consultation, or for any questions please call Katie McCormick at 830-563-7305.

Dr. Oren Renick authors book on unsung hero, William Penn Davis

Dr. Oren Renick

Dr. Oren Renick, esteemed professor in the School of Health Administration at Texas State University, recently authored a  book titled Smoke over Mississippi, about a brave and  little known pastor, William Penn Davis.

According to the synopsis of the book on Amazon, “Smoke over Mississippi is the fascinating story of a little-known, unsung hero. William Penn Davis was a Baptist preacher employed by the (historically white) Mississippi Baptist Convention as a liaison with black Baptists in the state. For years he worked energetically to build bridges of understanding and friendship between black and white Mississippi Baptists. Then, while driving home from a meeting at a black Baptist church, he was stopped by a group of racists, dragged from his car, and beaten. He refused to report the event to the police because to do so would have stirred up even more anger and hatred in the already-tense state. Instead he helped to create an organization, funded by white Baptists and others, to re-build black churches which had been burned by the Klan. Davis was an exemplar of moral vision and courage.”
